Meet Lee Jeyes: Regional Director
22 November 2024
Lee has been a part of the Bagnalls family for 36 years – the first two years of which were a sponsorship on a Youth Training Scheme (YTS). Lee has worked his way up within the company to become one of our Regional Directors.
What first attracted you to Bagnalls?
Lee: After I left school, I was determined to gain experience in a trade. I decided I wanted to do a painting and decorating apprenticeship and was told by my Careers Advisor to research local painting and decorating companies. It became clear very early on that Bagnalls had a strong reputation in the industry. At that time, the company had been going strong for 110 years.
Bagnalls’ commitment to apprenticeships was also a key factor in my decision to approach the company. I remember my interview with Les Driver (Bagnalls’ Training & Technical Officer) in July 1987. The letter from Les confirming Bagnalls’ agreement to sponsor me on the YTS remains in my CV file to this day!
What is your favourite part of your job?
Lee: The best thing about working for Bagnalls is the strong sense of belonging and long-term stability. I also love the opportunities for growth and advancement within the business.
Bagnalls is built on a strong set of core values, strong relationships and trust. This creates a supportive and collaborative work environment, where everyone feels valued and respected. Working for Bagnalls, I feel like I have had a direct impact on the company’s success.
What is your biggest achievement at Bagnalls?
Lee: Working my way up from apprentice to Regional Director! When I started my apprenticeship, I never dreamed I would be in the position I am today.
Do you have any advice for those considering a career in the painting and decorating industry?

You’ll receive the opportunity to work on different projects including care homes, commercial office buildings and even large-scale projects, like hotels and theatres. This variety keeps the work interesting and allows you to constantly learn and adapt to new challenges.
With the right mindset, skills, and determination, a career in painting can be a truly fulfilling and creative journey.
How do you feel about your apprenticeship?

It provided me with hands-on experience and practical skills that are directly applicable to my field. The structured training and learning opportunities offered during the apprenticeship and work placement at Bagnalls helped me develop a strong foundation of knowledge when it comes to painting and decorating.
