Bagnalls Refreshes Façade of Tameside Hospital
18 March 2025
Bagnalls has recently completed a refresh for the rendered façade at Tameside Hospital in Ashton-under-Lyme. We carried out this project for our customer, Concept to Delivery Group Ltd, at the beginning of September and faced a few challenging hurdles along the way – not just the British weather!
Our team began by applying Sto Silico G silicone-based paint specifications, suitable for the Sto render. We had an elevation directly above the hospital MRI Unit, which meant that our traditional forms of scaffold and MEWP access were not suitable due to the risk of MRI imagery being void. An alternative means of rope access was sourced instead.
Health and safety is one of our core values at Bagnalls and patient privacy was a key consideration from the outset. We ensured that all windows were screened off from the outside during our work and that the screens were removed at the end of each elevation.
Our team took great care to protect the pre-finished substrates. The cladding trim at low level was covered at all times when painting to protect it from overspray and the patient privacy screens were extended where necessary to cover the pre-finished window sills.
Working on the exterior of a very busy Greater Manchester hospital meant our team had to be aware of the general public, the hospital staff and patients, and hospital visitors. We ensured that our working areas were always fully secured, keeping unwanted disruption to the smooth running of the hospital to an absolute minimum.
The final part of the project included the Etherow Building, part of the Pennine Care Trust. The staff in this building look after adults of all ages with mental health-related issues. Our team worked closely with all parties to ensure the staff and patients were safe at all times.
Fixed scaffolding was used and areas of the garden were temporarily closed for the duration of our works. However, other aspects of the grounds remained open for patient use.
We hope that the staff, patients and visitors of Tameside Hospital are pleased with the finished project. If you have a painting and decorating project in the healthcare sector, contact your local Bagnalls team today to find out how we can help.
